Child Within

We chase the years
We run the race
We wear the masks
We keep the pace
But Christmas calls
A gentle plea
To see the world
More honestly

The truth is simple,
Bright, and near
A childlike voice,
We still can hear

Let the child within be free
See the world
With clarity
Laugh and wonder
Dance
Forgive
That’s the way
We’re meant to live

Let the child within be free!

Five lines bent
We let them slide
No need for walls
Where hearts can hide
Through smaller eyes
The world feels wide
And hope comes rushing
Back inside

The greatest gift,
We’ve ever known
Is love
That children freely show

Let the child within be free
See the world
With clarity
Laugh and wonder
Dance
Forgive
That’s the way
We’re meant to live

When life is hard
When nights are long
Recall the joy
Recall the song
The child we were
Still speaks today
And guides us
On the gentlest way

Let the child within be free!

Let the child within be free
That’s the truth
Of Christmas Eve
Every heart
Both old and new
The child within
Still carries through
Let the child within be free
That’s the truth
Of Christmas Eve
